As cotton lacks natural anti-bacterial and odor-resistant properties, it requires more frequent washing. Cotton can sometimes be prone to shrinking when it is washed and dried, and to prevent this happening it is recommended to use water that is 30°C or below, either by hand or in the washing machine. Colored cotton garments should be turned inside out before washing. Before allowing to air dry naturally, cotton can be gently stretched when they come out of the wash to restore shape.
Lace is a delicate and elegant fabric, which often requires special care to keep it looking its best for years to come. If your lace becomes stained, it will need to be cleaned quickly as stains can stick to the lace fibres permanently if left untreated for too long. Handwashing is generally considered the safest way to treat lace, and it is recommended to submerge in a warm water and mild detergent mix. Let the lace soak for roughly 30 minutes, before rinsing with water to wash away any remaining soap. Use a gentle plunging action to remove dirt and stains, and avoid rubbing. Never wring or twist lace fabric. Place on a clean, dry towel and press gently to remove excess water, and then lay flat to air dry naturally. If you do decide to clean lace in the washing machine using a gentle wash cycle, it is advised to first place it in a laundry bag to protect it from getting damaged.
Silk has long been associated with luxury, and while it is a delicate fabric, taking care of it doesn’t need to be difficult. Before attempting to clean your silk item, we recommend checking the care label for instructions as some silk is dry clean only, and others are washable. Some silk products are labelled as strictly ‘Dry Clean Only’, while others have ‘Dry Clean’ as the recommended cleaning method but may also be hand washed or machine washed. If you do decide to hand wash silk, always use lukewarm water and a specific, mild detergent in order to protect the silk’s natural properties. Avoid spot cleaning silk, as rubbing in only one area can cause the material to lighten in just that spot. Silk should not be tumble dried, and instead can be laid flat to dry naturally. If you must wash in the machine, select a gentle, cold-water cycle, place in a laundry bag for additional protection and promptly remove from the washer to reduce any wrinkles. If the care label on your silk item says that it can be ironed, then use a low iron setting and ideally iron while it is still slightly damp.
