After graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1981 'becoming known as part of the prestigious 'Antwerp Six' collective 'Ann Demeulemeester enjoyed almost immediate success. A year after leaving the Academy, she was awarded the Gouden Spoel, an annual prize given to the year's most promising fashion designer. The Ann Demeulemeester Blanche jackets collection takes inspiration from gothic, punk, and Japanese styles. Though her pieces have been described as "funereal", they are always stunning, underpinned by subtle emotion and sexuality. Cropped jackets and fitted blazers are simple and streamlined, yet make a powerful statement.
