He launched his eponymous line in 1992 under the Comme des Garcons umbrella, and since then has showcased collection after collection of sheer innovation. His designs are not for the faint-hearted, with avant-garde, deconstructed pieces often bolstered by technical innovations: for example, his famous glow-in-the-dark collection. In recent seasons the principal shade has been khaki - where military tailoring meets uniquely Watanabe proportions.
