The State of Men's Summer Footwear in 2026

If men's footwear spent the last decade eating their greens and bulking up at the gym, this summer they're skipping leg day entirely.

The era of chunky soles has given way to something much leaner. Ballet-inspired styles, razor-thin-soled sneakers, and barely-there leather slippers have become the shoe of choice for some of fashion's more discerning dressers, offering an antidote to years of oversized everything. Runways have leaned hard into the streamlined silhouette, while designers continue to push footwear that's elegant, low-profile, and almost comically delicate.

After years of trainers announcing themselves from all the way down the street, it's time to wear a shoe that minds its own business.

The flip-flop has had a bit of a PR makeover.

Not long ago they were reserved for airport security queues, communal showers, and the annual scramble to the hotel breakfast buffet. Now? Luxury brands have spent the last few seasons convincing us they're entirely acceptable daily footwear. Fashion flip-flops have emerged as one of the defining warm-weather shoes of 2026, with minimalist leather versions and elegantly simple examples replacing chunky dad sandals in the menswear pecking order.

Mules are easy. That's the appeal. Slide them on with summer-appropriate trousers, massive shorts or washed denim and suddenly getting dressed feels considerably less complicated. They also hit that elusive sweet spot between looking intentional and looking like you made absolutely no effort whatsoever.

Sometimes the ultimate luxury isn't another trend. It's not having to bend down to put your shoes on.
